Pop Culture Friendships That Will Never Die

Written by : Sneha Jha

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a piece of media in possession of great friendships must be watched. These portrayals have a significant impact in shaping our idea of friendships and connections. Be it Harry, Ron and Hermione, or the iconic Jodi of Jai and Veeru, these relationships give us major true friends goals.

Anne and Diana, Anne of Green Gables

Kindred spirits of our hearts, their relationship is the epitome of female friendships. As Anne is exploring her new life in Avonlea, after spending years in orphanages and strange homes, she meets Diana. Thus, begins a bond of a lifetime. Their innocent friendship soon becomes one of the most endearing parts of the books.

Harry, Ron and Hermione, The Harry Potter series

Hogwarts has seen many iconic friend groups in its many years, but nothing tops the Golden trio. When everything is falling apart around them and their world is crumbling down, they stand up for each other. Their personalities and wits compliment each other perfectly. Their friendship also stands the test of time, after the war.

Imraan, Arjun and Kabir, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

What is life if you don't go on a road trip with your childhood friends and fulfill your long-standing pact of doing crazy adventure sports. There is so much drama, not just in their personal lives, but amongst themselves too. It's all the more compelling to watch them overcome everything. It truly was a zindagi worth it.

Charles Boyle and Jake Peralta, Brooklyn Nine Nine

Best Bud #1 and #2, Jake and Boyle are our favorite NYPD duo. Despite the comedy, the duo doesn't shy away from having serious conversations at times. These two have some of the best cold opens and sequences together. The Dianne Wiest pun, anyone?

R2D2 and C3PO, Star Wars

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, R2D2 and C3PO met and thus began one of the most beautiful friendships of all time. In the midst of the multiple galactic wars, their banter kept the atmosphere alive. They really are the dynamic duo of Star Wars.

Goodies, Chris, Teddy and Vern, Stand by Me

"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?" Even though the four eventually drifted apart, the impact they had on each other's life was profound. The memory of their childhood days lives on, even after everything that happens to them.

Neil and Todd, Dead Poets Society

Neil and Todd's special connection is evident through-out the movie. They both encourage each other's passion beyond the realm of their conservative school. As they uncover themselves and figure out their true selves, they become a timeless representation of adolescent friendship.

Rancho, Farhan and Raju, 3 Idiots

The friends you have in college can be something so profound. These three are each other's support as they navigate their college days and their futures. The chemistry of the three friends has made 3 Idiots a definitive Bollywood gem.

David Rose and Stevie Budd, Schitts Creek

David's punk rock energy matches Stevie's emo personality perfectly. What starts off as a fun bantering friendship, ends with a beautiful note. Stevie helps David realize what he really wants in life and he in turn helps Stevie get out of her shell. With such a heartfelt relationship, The Rosebud Motel is not their only legacy. It's them together that makes the real Rosebud.

Ferris and Cameron, Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and take a day off with your best friend, you could miss it. Ferris is the epitome of a self confident teen. It's Cameron who gets a transformational journey as he comes out of his isolation and becomes a true version of himself. Their day off in Chicago is something they would definitely remember 37 years later.

In the multiverse of books, movies and TV shows, great friendships are plentiful. These heartfelt plot lines don't only make for a great viewing, but also tell us a lot about one of the greatest things life has to offer- human relationships.
